HELLO AGAIN

Now we are gonna try to use that URL of the blue cat in a signature page we create ourselves. We may end up feeling like poor little Calvin over there, but we are gonna try anyway LOL
So here we go to Lesson 3 - Using importD3.gif - blue cat in a Signature Page

The basic elements of a signature code are:
  • beginning html<<>html<>>
  • body bgcolor (background color under the background) and text color
  • background
  • images and placement of them. To the left, the center, or to the right.
  • closing tags<<>/<>> for these items which are the slash / mark inside brackets for each item used in a sig code the bracket signs can be found when you capitalize the , (comma) and the . (period)
  • closing /html<<>/html<>>

For a basic code using only a background color and the blue cat this is the code

<<>html<>><<>body bgcolor="color" text="color"<>><<>center<>><<>img src="http://community.webtv.net/YourName/PageName/scrapbookFiles/importD3.gif"<>><<>/center<>><<>/body<>><<>/html<>>

Now lets do it adding a background that you added to your published page like I told you how to on the last page. Lets say this background is importD4.jpg Here goes

<<>html<>><<>body bgcolor="color" background="http://community.webtv.net/YourName/PageName/scrapbookFiles/importD4.jpg" text="color"<>><<>center<>><<>img src="http://community.webtv.net/YourName/PageName/scrapbookFiles/importD3.gif"<>><<>/center<>><<>/body<>><<>/html<>>

You have now added your own background and your own image to this sig code.YEAH AND YAHOO!! Lets do our happy happy joy joy dance again, only this time lets BOOGIE ON DOWN!!!

There are lots and lots of helps sites out there that can explain Signatures much better than I can. I will add a couple of links to them at the end of this page.
But I will try to explain putting a sig in your sig box as best I can anyway.
  • The sig box is found at your EMAIL AREA at the top of the area - choose SETTINGS and click on it - on the next page, choose SIGNATURE - on the next page is your SIG BOX - this is where your sig goes!
You can type right in there your own code or, if you have found a really way cool and neat-o sig somewhere and cut and copied it -- the CMD and A, CMD and C that I taught you on the last page - you are ready to paste - CMD and V - it in there.
  • Make sure your cursor bar (that yellow flashing type bar thingy) is in the VERY UPPER LEFT HAND CORNER OF THE BOX - then hit your CMD button and then the V button (while still keeping down the CMD button) and VOILA' there is the sig code in the box!!
  • ACK!! But WAIT -- there is a VERY IMPORTANT THING YOU MUST DO - you have to make sure there is no spaces before the top <<>html<>> of the code - so put the cursor bar against the left bracket < and use your DELETE KEY to try to delete anything that might be there.
  • Once you have done that, run the cursor bar on down the sig box. DO NOT USE YOUR SCROLL KEYS IN THE SIG BOX! and hit the DONE then the DONE on the next page and then go to your write a letter area and see if the sig is there.
If it's not, you did sumpin wrong, so go back up in the sig box and see whats going on.
It could be something simple like a space before the top <<>html<>> or even a space somewhere in the code that shouldn't be there.
  • The best way to learn Signature Code lay-out is to study the codes at a ready-made sig site like Siggies or SultryRose Sigs. See how each and every item is placed within a code and the placement codes for left, right, center etc. If you want to write your own html codes, this is very important. Every quotation mark ( " ) or . (period) is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY for your code to work properly. If one is left out the image or background or music won't work.
I copied and printed out many a sig code and studied them to see how things were put together. This is a good thing to do before starting to write codes yourself.
  • One last code I will write for you is the code above with your own background and the blue cat but now I will add music from a LINKABLE SITE (make sure you can link to the midi) Here goes:

    <<>html<>><<>body bgcolor="color" background="http://communty.webtv.net/YourName/PageName/scrapbookFiles/importD4.jpg" text="color"<>><<>center<>><<>img src="http://community.webtv.net/YourName/PageName/scrapbookFiles/importD3.gif"<>><<>/center<>><<>bgsound src="http://URLofMidi" loop="-1"<>><<>/body<>><<>/html<>>

  • That is the basic signature code. All kinds of stuff can be added here and there. I will add the links to other sites now. I hope I helped you. If not feel free to email me and I will try to help. Wow, I am tired of typing LOL
