I'll Show You Newfoundland (Jim Payne) video

Give me the worst of weather,
Give me the best of friends;
Give me the place where the cold waters race
From the mountains through marshes,
down valleys to the ocean.
And give me the sound of the seashore,
Waves pounding a path in the sand;
Show me the spot that's wood, water and rock,
And I'll show you Newfoundland.

And I'm home in the Codroy Valley,
I'm home on the Great Northern Pen;
I'm home on the Avalon, Trepassey to Roddicton,
Burin to Bonne Bay, that's where you'll find me.
Bays Fortune, Placentia, St Georges,
Capes Freels, St John to Cape Ray,
But most of all home is a nice little town,
On the west side of Notre Dame Bay.

Perhaps it's because I was born there,
And grew up and played in the beach;
But I can't go away for too many days,
Without feeling I must be near saltwater's reach.
Perhaps its the folks I love dearly,
My countrymen, family and friends;
Perhaps it's the air that's so fresh, clean and clear,
Or the fogbanks that keep rolling in.

But I'm home in the Codroy Valley,
I'm home on the Great Northern Pen;
I'm home on the Avalon, Trepassey to Roddicton,
Burin to Bonne Bay, that's where you'll find me.
Bays Fortune, Placentia, St Georges,
Capes Freels, St John to Cape Ray,
But most of all home is a nice little town,
On the west side of Notre Dame Bay.

I know that we've lived through some rough times,
Depression and danger we know;
Our forefathers fought and to us then they taught,
All the tricks of the trade
that they used for survival.
Their legacy we still hold onto,
Their music and songs tell us how;
They worked and they played
all the places they strayed,
The lessons we're still learning now.

And I'm home in the Codroy Valley,
I'm home on the Great Northern Pen;
I'm home on the Avalon, Trepassey to Roddicton,
Burin to Bonne Bay, that's where you'll find me.
Bays Fortune, Placentia, St Georges,
Capes Freels, St John to Cape Ray,
But most of all home is a nice little town,
On the west side of Notre Dame Bay.

We live here by good luck and laughter,
Don't let the bad weather bring you down;
We're far better off with a cold or a cough,
Then a hurricane, famine, or wars that are raging.
In other parts of this ol' world,
There's beauty and riches, that's true;
But I don't mind the cold,
and there's not enough gold,
To get me to pack up and move.

'Cause I'm home in the Codroy Valley,
I'm home on the Great Northern Pen;
I'm home on the Avalon, Trepassey to Roddicton,
Burin to Bonne Bay, that's where you'll find me.
Bays Fortune, Placentia, St Georges,
Capes Freels, St John to Cape Ray,
But most of all home is a nice little town,
On the west side of Notre Dame Bay.
But most of all home is a nice little town,
On the west side of Notre Dame Bay.
