Nobody knows how long it's been
ever since the world began,
To every house on Christmas Eve
comes a rich-suited, jolly, little man;
Everybody else is finding it hard,
trying to make things do,
Did you ever stop to think
that Santa might find it the same way too?
'Cause he don't have no union,
to fight for a raise in pay,
In spite of the hours he has to work
and trips he has to make;
Flying all over the countryside
in the sleet, snow and frost,
The only good thing about Santa's job is
he never ever gets laid off.
Here comes Santa,
everybody sings when Christmas rolls around,
There aren't any doubts in anyone's mind,
old Santa is coming to town;
I hope it never happens,
I could hardly bear the thought,
If one of those days, here comes Santa,
Santa Claus might not.
If Santa's job is getting harder,
it's only like you think it be,
It's hard to find a chimney to climb,
since we turned to electric heat;
Those shiny metal stove-pipes
on the outside of the wall,
With wood stoves all night long,
it's a wonder he comes at all.
But he don't seem to worry,
it don't seem to bother him none,
As long as there's goodness in the world,
old Santa's gonna come;
As long as there are little boys and girls,
dreaming in their little sleepy heads,
He'll be around every Christmas Eve,
no matter how rough it gets.
Here comes Santa,
everybody sings when Christmas rolls around,
There aren't any doubts in anyone's mind,
old Santa is coming to town;
I hope it never happens,
I could hardly bear the thought,
If one of those days, here comes Santa,
Santa Claus might not.
If one of those days, here comes Santa,
Santa might not.
