I've written this tutorial because so many of the masks are made on black backgrounds and they don't recolor well, and they are hard to make transparent. This will help you to make your own oval mask, using any color you'd like for your background.
These instructions are for a 320x320 transparent gif & for Network 11 IM, only. It also assumes you have a bit of experience using Image Magic. NOTE: don't use a tool page to go to IM. Use the link below. Many of the tool pages do not have the upgraded versions of IM, and may cause you difficulties. Take the transparent gif to Image Magic , enter url in text box. On the next page choose DRAW from the tabs at the top of the page. Choose ELLIPSE from the dropdown box. In the text box enter these co-ordinates: 160,160 100,150 0,360. (Make sure to use the commas) FIll color=white. Stroke color=white, Stroke size=3. Click the draw button. Next page you should have an image like this: Oval - Untrimmed Go to TRANSFORM and choose trim. Next page is your trimmed oval. Output as a gif and save to your server or scrapbook. You may use this one, if you'd like. Oval - Trimmed. The size is 204 x 303. Next, choose an image to go into your oval. Choose an image that will not distort too bad when it is resized. I chose a floral . There are 2 ways you can use the image with the oval. The first way is to resize the image to the same size as the oval 204x303. Output and save. CCP the url to the image into the find box. The ccp the url to the oval. Head back to IM. Enter the url for the oval first. Next page, choose the COMPOSITE tab. Next page - enter the url from your find box. Under the Compose drop box, choose IN. Leave everything else as it is. Click composite. Next page is your image. Output as a gif and save. Results You can use it on any color bg as a gif. But, read on and learn how to fuzz the edges & make it a jpg, which will load MUCH faster on your page or e-mail. The 2nd way is to use the image in it's orignal size. In that case, depending on which part of the image you want to show in the oval, you change the gravity to northwest, northeast, south, etc. Mine was done at northwest. It should look something like this: CCP the url for the imaged oval into your find box. Then CCP the url for the transparent gif, and head back to IM. Enter the transparent gif first. Next page scroll down underneath the image to PAINT. Choose the following: Method=Replace Paint Type=Color FIll Color=???? Note - Fill color is to be determined by the bg color of your page. Mine is #789297. Next step is to resize the newly colored image. Resize it to a size to give it a nice border in case you want to frame it. I chose 264x363. Next choose COMPOSITE. Enter the url for your imaged oval into the text box. Choose OVER & center. Click composite. Next choose EFFECTS. Choose SPREAD. In the text box type 5x5. Click effect button. Choose EFFECTS again Choose BLUR. In the text box type 5x5. Click effect button. Resize one more time, say 15x15 pixels larger or 279x <-- leave the height number blank and it will resize to proportion. Choose COMPOSITE. The url for the oval will still be in the text bx. Keep everything the same and click composite. You can output this as a jpg to save on file size. Your finished image should look something like this: My Index Home Page Depot Index. ©2004 ~ MsV HTML Help Gnubee Home of The M.A.L.L.R.A.T.S. |
