I too was abused by my mother...some things unmentionable so I won't go into it all. From betaing me with a hot knife (heated on the stove) on the hands... to beating me to near death with a barber's razor strap. Somehow I managed to forgive and forget it all..... don't ask me how... one sister has completely blanked out her early years and recalls none of this....I recall it all :( She beat my sisters too.. but once I turned about 11 I found I could easily outrun my mom whenever necessary, so the beatings basically stopped. (Except the time she threw a fork at me and hit a major artery in my arm) with blood spurting all over she took me to the hospital She told me not to tell the doctor what happened... but forgot to supply me with a lie.. so when the doctor asked..(at age 7) all I could think of was the truth... so I said "My mom threw a fork at me" He said and did nothing.. but then this was 1959 Meantime my 'honed' reactions became so fast i was soon able to "catch & release" or at least block any objects thrown at me, so even throwing things at me ceased eventually. Now the only thing I "catch & release" are small fish :) at 53....I have long since forgiven her for her shortcomings realizing she has/had a mental abberation I love both my mom and dad (now both 86... recently they celebrated their 66th anniversary) and we get along fine.. of course I've become far faster, stronger and agile than I was as a child :) No doubt spurred by the abuse I endured. Your story is so sad it brings tears to my eyes...but your strength and courage thru your trials is inspiring. I sure hope you are happier now and find that special person you seek soon.
