Transloading Made Easy

This page is intended to be a simple, printable instruction sheet for transloading images and music to your web site files. If you're looking for a transloader (or 7) go HERE to find it. Okay, let's get started!

When you have an image or sound you want to transload using an online transloading service, they ask you some questions you have to know the answers to before it will work. Here is what they ask for and an explanation for each.

1. The URL of the image or sound you want to transload. You know how to get URL's and paste them into memory, right? If not, go HERE to learn.

2. Where it's going (Target Host, ftp). Most of the places where you build pages are the same. For Tripod it's ftp.tripod.com, for Terrashare it's ftp.terrashare.com and so on. One exception I've found is TopCities. There it's username.topcities.com.

3. Your user name. Whatever the name of your site is. When I transload to Tripod, mine's caseys_cavern because that's the user name I chose to begin with.

4. Your password at the place you build your pages. Don't ever share this information with anyone!

5. The directory you want the transloaded item put into. I have folders at my sites labeled gifs, music, etc and send each item to the folder where I want to find it later (and link to it to get it on a page). If you leave this blank, the item will be transloaded into your main account. You can, in most cases, move it later if you want to.

6. What you want the file renamed to. Here they just want the very last section of the URL that will identify this item once it's transloaded. You can number your items, such as button01.gif, button02.gif, etc, but it'll be harder later to remember which one is which after you have 30 or 40 buttons in your button folder! If the name it has is acceptable, leave this blank and it will keep that name. If you rename your item, don't forget the extention (.gif, .jpg, .mid, whatever it is).

So, short and sweet:
1. URL of the item to be transloaded.
2. Target account, ftp.yourhost.com usually.
3. Your user name.
4. Your password.
5. The folder (directory) you want the item in.
6. A new name, if any, you want for the item.

Not all transloading services ask these questions in this order and some don't ask for you to rename an item, but most are pretty standard. If you have questions or need help, EMAIL me and I will try to help.
