"Every man dies, not every man really lives"

William Wallace was captured at The Well in
Robroyston on August 3, 1305.

He was taken to London an tried for treason
on August 23. His reply to the charge was
"I cannot be a traitor, since I never swore fealty
to the English King."
Nevertheless, he was hanged, cut down while
still breathing, disembowelled, had his genitals
cut off, and that great Scottish heart, still beating,
was torn from his chest and thrown into fire.

It was said that the hanging, drawing
and beheading was so horrific, that even
the medieval judges could not bear to watch!

This plaque marks the place in Smithfield, England
where he was executed.

Inscribed are the words
Bas agus Buaid ~ Death and Victory

His memory will always be a source of pride,
honor and inspiration to his countrymen.

Also added in Latin are the words
"I tell you the truth.
Freedom is what is best.
Son, never live life like a slave."
