USING IMAGE MAGICK

CLICK HERE TO ENLARGE THE TEXT OF THIS PAGE

First, here's Image Magick, or you can use the Image Magick tool on my Tools Page, or Image Sizer Page.

You must remember to upload your Images to your files within a few hours or they will delete it! PC user's should upload it to your hard drive or disks ASAP.

Ok, I'm no big expert on using Image Magick, but I know enough to make good looking banner's, and awards, and a few other things, so I'll try to explain how to do some things that might help.

  CHANGING JPG TO GIF
1. Ok, the first thing you need to do is put the address of the image you want to change in the address box at image magick.

2. Then click the view button below it. Now the image should appear on the next page with the dimensions under it.

3. Now click the "output" button on the top left.

4. One the next page that appears, click "gif" in the check box below the image, and "single frame" below that.

5.Then click the output below that.

6. On the next page all you have to do is click on the image and it will give you the address, copy it and put it in an uploader or a transloader and move the graphic to your scrapbook or file at your website. It will now be in gif form for you to use. PC user's will have to click on the image and on the next screen, right click on it to save it to your hard drive or disk. nothing to hard about that was it?

  RESIZING
Resizing an image at Image Magick. This can be very usefull when trying to save space in your files or scrapbook. You can reduce the space or bytes leaving your more room in your files, you can use height="?" width="?" on your image codes to make them larger.

1. Again and always, get the address first and put it in the box provided at image magick. Now click the view button.

2. On the next screen as alway's your image will appear with the dimensions under it, width first. For example if you had an image you wanted to reduce and it was big it might say 350x500 at the bottom of the srceen.

3. Now to reduce the size click the "resize" button top right.

4. On the next screen there will be a box with number like 350x500+100+150, your can delete those numbers and put your own in.

5. Now in the box put in the number you want to reduce it to, for example, 150x300! <-- Now don't forget that ! mark after the number you put in or it won't work!!

6. Under neath that make sure the little red light next to "zoom" is there, if not, click it so it's is.

7. Now click the resize button underneath that.

8. Now on the next screen your image will appear with the dimensions you put, if you want to change it more just click your "back" button and redo the process with different number's until you get the size you want.

NOTE You can also resize bigger if you want. But resizing to much can cause you to loose resolution, if you don't like it when you get it back to your files, you should go back and resize it enough so it doesn't look fuzzy or wierd. You can alway's use height="?" and width="?" on your image codes to resize more without loosing that much more resolution.

9. Now when your done resizing click the ouput button, top left.

10. Now click "gif" or "jpg", in the check box, and "single frame" underneath that. If it's a gif with animation or movement in it you must click the "multiframe" instead of "single frame" or you won't be able to transload or upload the image. And then click the "ouput" button underneath that.

11. Now click on the image and get the address, you can put it in a transloader or uploader, put it in your scrapbook or files on your website and your done.

  MAKING A BANNER
OK, making a banner isn't that hard. If you want to make a simple word banner you can make them at Flaming text, or Cooltext, or The Banner Generator.

But if you want to make a banner at image magick you will need a few things, first a background, you can look around the web and find a background you like and resize it with the directions above usually banner's are usually not more than "500" width and 50 to 80 in height, so it would be 500 x 60, ("But it can be bigger or smaller, it all up to you, but the width of the webtv screen is 560 MAX!"). If your going to put a border around it or a frame you should take that into consideration and make it smaller until you add the border or frame.

Here's a couple for you to use

*NOTE Since this tutorial was made image magick has changed. The boxes where you put the font size (point size) and color are located under where the ANNOTE button is. "Fill Color" is where you put your color, and you can use hex color's now.

1. Ok, you have a background and have resized it according to the directions above. After resizing it you can click the "annote" button, upper right after loading the image in.

2. Now if you want to put words on the banner just type in words in the box, delete what's already there. If you want to use more than one line you can.

3. Now use the drop down menu and click "center", make sure the box next to it is empty for now.

4. Go down further and there's a box you can put the color you want the text to be, you can only use word color's here, like white, black, ect. Go further down and look at the point size, this is how big the number's will be. It should be set on 24 which is Ok, you can alway hit your back button if you want to go back and make the text bigger or smaller.

5. Above that there should be a text box with words starting with the "A"'s. These are the font types, you can scroll through and try and find you think will look nice and the kind you want.

6. Now go back up a bit and click the "annote" button in the middle of the page.

7. On the next screen your image should be there with words on the image, if you don't like the size, or font type, or color. click your back button and redo what you don't like. You can play around with these for along time until you get the effect you like.

8. Now once you have the words on the background you can put a border around it. Click the "decorate" button upper right.

9. Now on the next screen there's a box that will probably say 15x15 that's a pretty big border, you can try that or make it smaller or bigger if you want.

10. Underneath that there should be box for the color, again, word color's go here.

11. And last you have to pick what you want to try, border, frame, rise, or sunken. Most peope just use frame for the border, but some do something a little different, first they click "border", then click decorate again, and then click "raise". This takes 2 moves but does give a nice effect. You can experiment around until you get the effect you want.

12. Once you have the effect you want then you can click output on the upper left. Then as before you can click gif or jpg, and single frame, and and click the output button, click on the image and get the address and transload or upload to your files. Congrats! you just made your first banner!

Here's a sample of one you could make.

Ok, to make another kind of banner you will need a banner blank. This is just a blank box you can resize and put images and words on. Here's one for you, click on it below to get the address. I know it looks like nothing is there but once you put it in a lighter background or load it in at image magick you will be able to see it then. Here it is below, click on it to get the address. You can then trasload or upload it to your files s you have it to use in the future. The good thing about this blank one is that you can resize it to any size you want without any loss of resolution.

Here's what I made using the banner blank. First I found an image.

Then I went to image magick and resized it. I made it the same height to fit the banner blank, then clicked output, gif, multiframe, output again, and transloaded it.

Then I put it in the banner blank to the left. I did this by putting the banner blank in the address on the first page of image magick. Then clicking "view". On the next page I clicked "composite", on the next screen I put the address of the resized wizard in the box. Underneath that I clicked "West" on the drop down menu and clicked the "composite" button. The wizard was added to the banner blank on the left side like this.

Then I clicked the "annote" button and added the words "The wizard of the web" using 2 rows in the box instead of one long line. Put in color "dodgerblue" and put the kind of font, or text, in the check box I wanted, "Old Bookman Bold Italic". I clicked "west" in the drop down menu, but it was to far to the right. So I put +45+20 in the box next to the drop down menu. The first number +45 will move it to the east, the second number +20 is how far north the words go. You can play with these number's until you get the effect you want. Then I ended up with this.

After ths I just put a border around it. Clicked "decorate", put 9x9 in the box for the size of the border, color was dodgerblue, and click "Frame". And the clicked the button.

Then I just click "output" and "gif", then "mulitframe" because it has animation in it. And clicked "output", and clicked on the picture to get the address of the image for transloading, or uploading if you prefer.

One more kind of banner is an animated banner, but where just the words change inside, a cool effect and easy to do. It's nothing more than 2 or more banner's the same size put together and made to show one after another in 1 second intervals. Here's an example of mine.

Here's an example of one I made for a friend of mine. First I made a subdirectory in my files, I named it "animation". You will need a site on one of the free server's to make a banner like this. Second I made a banner and named it something like kentest1.gif, (the banner's must be named the same except add 1 to the first one and 2 for the second one, ect.) Here's the banner.

Then I made another banner same size, but named this one kentest2.gif

I then transloaded both of them to my animation subdirectory.

Then I when to image magick, and put the address of my subdirectory in. http://wtv-zone.com/TheKid/animation/ <-- Remember that / after your animation or it won't work!! The first banner will be the only one that will show but don't worry. Now click "output" on the top. On the output page click "gif" in the check box, and "multiframe" underneath that. Now below that, go to the box where it say's, "1/100 second delay". Type 100 in that box, that will give a 1 second delay, 200 will give a 2 second delay, ect. You can play with the number's until you get the time you want.

Underneath that go to the box where it say's loop= and put "0" in the box, make sure the rest of the boxes are blank. And click the "output" button like before, and on the next screen you will the the banner fully animated with the other banner's underneath it. Just click the top one and get the address. Now transload or upload it to your files and you can use it. Here's what the one I made looked like.

If your looking for a great place to find some banner blanks, try Banners'R'us.

  MAKING AWARDS
Ok, everything you need to know about making awards you already know from the directions above. Alot of people just pick a background and annote over it with words like, "This award of "whatever" given to "Whoever" for there outstanding work". And add a border around it, or 2 or more border's, which is the simplest way. Other's take a graphic, add it to a blank gif, add words on top and bottom, and add a border or two. This is what I do.

This is a bit harder, making the blank gif the same width, and then making the height of the blank gif alittle higher and centering the image on it. Then adding the words on top and bottom using the location box, or gravity box. Here's how I made this one. First I found the graphic.

Then I resize my banner blank to the size 200x300, transloading it of course. Then I resized the graphic to 200x212, just so it would fit the width of the banner blank.

Then I went to image magick and Put in the address of my banner blank, then clicked "composite" and put in the address of my resized image, clicked "center" on the drop down menu. And after looking at it, it wasn't centered, so I put +0+25 in the location/gravity box next to the drop down. (rember, the first number moves the image or words east, the second will move it north, or south depending on if your north or south). This cented the image on the banner blank by moving it north, or up.

Then I clicked "annote" and put in the words "THE CLUBS" and put north on the drop down menu, and put in +0+40 to put the words in the center, but pull them down from the top enough so you could see them. I used dodgerblue for the color and bookman bold italic for the font style, point size was 24

Then clicked "annote" again, and put in the words, "COOL SITE AWARD, award was on line 2. Then I put "south" in the drop down menu, and I put +0+55 to center it and move it up from the bottom so you could see it. Color, size and font style remained the same. Ending up with this.

Then I added the border, I cicked decorate, and put 9x9 dodgerblue for the color, and used frame. Then I clicked decorate again, and put 11x11 and used blue for the color, and clicked border. Then I clicked decorate again, used blue, and put in 11x11 and clicked raised this time.

After that it was bigger because of the border I added so I clicked "resize" and resized it to 200x300, Ending up with this.

Using this method, especially using the gravity/location box, like +20+20 to make the words centered on top, using north in the drop down menu. And putting south in the drop down menu and using the location or gravity box to add words at the bottom. Then adding the border's. Take's more time, but looks a little better. It does get easier with practice, but if your do make your blank gif to big, and your words look great, but the blank is just to big on top or bottom your can "crop" it. This is a way of cutting out what you don't want on the top, bottom or sides. Here's a great tutorial on doing that, I suggest you type this out and practice, it does come in handy. Here it is click here. And here's the complete tutorial on other things you can do at Image Magick Click Here. Well that's about it, I hope this helps you understand better on using Image Magick, and will help you out making your site and banner's and awards look better.

MAKING SOLID BACKGROUND FOR BANNER'S AND AWARDS

First you need a clear.gif to use, here's one for you. Again, it will look like there's nothing there, but it's there, like the black.gif you used above.

Now that you have a clear.gif here's the steps to make a solid color (any color you choose), blank for banners or awards. Now take the clear.gif to Image Magick. Resize it to the size you want the award or banner to be, using the direction above.

Then on the next page scroll under the resized blank (at the very bottom of the page), and put in color on the first drop-down (paint type), leave the rest that are on that are on the left of that drop down. Next in the box under that marked floodfil, type in the color you want. Now go up to your blank you just resized, and click it on. you will see an arrow, click again. Now on the next page it will give you the color you wanted (it might take a few seconds for it to appear).

Now you can click "output" on top, and gif on the next page, and single frame, and output again below that and transload the image or upload it, like you did for the direction for the images above. Now you have a solid color blank, the color of your choice to use for banner's or awards. Here's one I made of with the clear.gif using the directions above, I chose blue for this example.

To mak`e a solid blank out of any blank you have, all you have to do is follow the same directions as above. Have fun, Kid

MAKING YOUR OWN BACKGROUND
OK, if you want to make your own background like this. Then here's how you can make your own. First, take the banner black you got from above, take it to image magick and put the address of it in and click "view". Then on the next page click "resize" and resize it to 150x150 using the instructions above.

Now go to "Annote". On the next screen make sure its in "center" on the drop down menu for location. Below that the check box pick the type of writing you want. This one was "Signet Roundhand ATT Italic", but you can use any you like, "remember you can alway's click back and pick another".

Now under that go to the "Fill color" box and pick a color. Under that box look at the "point size", you can try any size you want, the bigger the number, the bigger the size. Now under that box there's a "rotate" box, delete what in there and put -30 for it to lean the way mine is, or +30 to lean the other way. You can play around and get the direction you want.

After that's done and you got the size and type of print you want, and the rotation you want. Click the output on the top right, and on the next page click jpg or gif, whichever you want. Then click "single file" then click the output button under that. On the next screen you can click on the image and get the address to upload or transload.

Even though it's only one square with one name, when you use it as a background it will tile over, or "repeat". And fill up the whole background. That's it! You did it, Kid

Practice and have fun, and remember that image magick will only keep your images there for 24 hours, after that they will be deleted. So you must upload your image to your files before that or they will be lost and you will have to do it all over again. Hope this helps! Kid

For those of your that just can't get it or don't have the time, I will try and do my best to make an award or banner for you. But one of the best places to make one is Jerry Universe. Or fill out the form below. Please have the addresses of the backgrounds and images you want to use, and the color's would be nice too. Please allow 3 to 5 day's as things can get pretty busy on my end. And all awards or banner's must be transloaded or uploaded to your files. I will delete them soon after your notified that they are finished. Kid
