Ben Loyal, Sutherland

Scotland

At a height of 764m, Ben Loyal's distinctive silhouette dominates the surrounding Sutherland and Caithness landscape. A mile to the west is Loch Loyal, a popular fishing spot, and 5 miles to the north is the picturesque village of Tongue. The scree on the north face of the mountain became known in Gaelic as the "Scree of the Boar" in the belief that Diarmad, the nephew of Gaelic hero Finn mac Cumhal, had slain a magic boar and dragged it down the slope.
