| Whether the Eildons is a brief mountain range of three conical summits, or one triple-crested height is a matter for students of geology, but for the lay person this famous feature of the Borders countryside south of Melrose is simply a pleasure to the eye. Legend has it that of old there was only one peak, but the wizard Michael Scott commanded a devil to split it into three, lest its idle hands did greater mischief elsewhere. |
