The Magic of Transparency and Moving Backgrounds

This was / is an ongoing collaborative effort at Gnubee's , inspired by a long time friend, webber, & table genius, Paulie.

I've copied the posts in the order that they were made. There is a link to each result, and the code for that particular 'look' is below the images, should you wish to give it a try.

Some time ago I learned how to do this from a Paulie tute which no longer exists, but the html for its simplest version is shown below (with Paulie's permission). This is Paulie's tremendous site:

Paulies' Button World

This is Choco's share, with a simple comp and draw frame - plus Paulie's technique:

First Example

Besides the moving bg shown above, there are green, purple, blue and b/w animated bgs that I'd be happy to post if anyone wants to try this - I don't know how to make the bgs, but guess it would take a Moon Morph.

From: xxxxxxx@webtv.net (R T) This time i used 2 diff colors of moving BGs. There was a jaggie along the bottom which seemed to go away by subtracting 10 off the height of top BG. Not sure how it will post tho....

Result:    Moonlight Serenade

Castle & Flower

First stab at this sort of thing. Had to draw a 30 black stroke on Blarney Castle else its white edges showed - neither "0" border nor re-sizing helped.

And, finally, permission to write up a page in order to keep the magic alive.

Excellent use of the "technique", Choco - was pretty wobbly on my first try, but you aced it. I was prompted to try this method by RT's use of the ani background and my memory of what Paulie does on his "Blend" pages. I did not source his pages - their concept is too big and slow-loading - but tried to imagine how they might be done on a smaller scale. The essential ingredient for me, was Paulie's moving background.

Since most of what I do is a jumble in my brain, I would be happy to have you, Choco, write up the technique, including what I am sure are the improvements you would make ... and I'm certain that you will give Paulie (not me, please) a founder's credit. He helped me do the original moving background, maybe 2 years ago?, and when I asked him if I could show it to this Group, he, being Paulie, said "sure". Paulie and I are not constant correspondents. I'm a fan .. he's the man!

Until this technique is perfected, I hope everyone here will try it out .. raising and lowering transparancies is a LOT of fun - and you needn't include a moving background; but should you do so, I suspect that discoveries can by made by changing the Delay. Who knows? onward and upward, fellow/sister imagers. Ed

This is my attempt. Sunset
