The Technical Stuff Printer Version Note - If you are already familiar with dingbats, you can skip to Page 3 Dingbats are true type fonts ( .ttf ) that create pictures, instead of letters of the alphabet. Some, but not ALL dingbat sites provide a character set or charset to show you which letter creates which picture. Here's an example for the "Faces from the Past" dingbat from House of Lime: Charset This is what the url to that dingbat looks like: http://wtv-zone.com/MsV/dings/HouseofLime-faces-from-past.ttf Not all dingbats will use ALL letters of the alphabet, and some dingbats will use BOTH upper and lower case, plus punctuation. If there is no charset provided, you can take a blank to IM, and type in the letters or punctuation, and find out for yourself, which ones produce a picture. If you have completed Nancy's Annotate lesson, you have already learned how to use fonts from outside of Image Magick. If you need to refresh your memory on how to grab the url for a ttf font, refer to Page 7 in her tute. Each fontographer has their own style, so not every dingbat will be the same as far as where to place them on a blank. Some dingbats have more space around the individual image, so you will need to play with the offset & gravity numbers for placement. Point size will vary, also. Start big - 150-200, and adjust from there. Some dingbats will have just an outline, and some dingbats will be solid, like the faces above. Some dingbat sites have ttf files that are zipped. So, you must beam the zip file to your account and unzip it before you can get at the ttf. For those who do not have unzipping capabilities in their file managers, here is a tool you can use. It works as an unzipper and transloader. Core Tech MSNTV Tools Here are just a few of my favorite dingbat sites. The first four have the ttf files ready to CCP. The last two have zipped files.
